Instructors/Graders (Part-Time)

KUMON of FARRAGUT is looking for part-time instructors/graders!

Kumon is an afterschool program for ages 4 and up, which helps students master their reading and/or math skills. The young KUMON students do daily worksheets and come into the center once or twice a week, where worksheets are graded by our staff. Work consists mostly of grading worksheets; requires focus and consistency.

Attention to detail is required, along with being able to read well and understand basic math in order to focus and grade student work without errors. This work also requires being able to sit for most of the time at work, and to work quietly.

Work hours are Mondays and Thursdays after school (as soon as a high school student could get to our center, until about 7:30) and sometimes occasional other afternoons when grading demand is high. We are looking for workers to start now, but also be able to work during the summer months and beyond, into next school year. No weekend work (normally). Most workers could get about 8-12 hours per week (year-round).

Pool Manager

Andover Place Homeowners Association is seeking a pool manager. The pool manager position generally involves managing our staff of lifeguards (including head lifeguard) and the operation of our neighborhood pool from late May through mid-August. Key responsibilities include the following: Preparing weekly schedules for lifeguard staff. Train lifeguards on pool operation standards and safety. Supervise and direct the staff in a way that ensures all the tasks are done properly. Act as point of contact for lifeguards. Assist with lifeguard operation of snack shack concession. Provide status reports to the Andover Place Board of Directors.

This position is 20-30 hours per week. Because some of the work can be performed off-site (like scheduling), there is some flexibility. Typical on-site hours are in the 5-9pm range mostly during weekdays. The pay starts at $10-$12 per hour, depending on experience.

The ideal candidate will have excellent organization skills and experience as a lifeguard or pool manager. This job will appeal to anyone who is looking for part-time employment during the summer months and wants to gain valuable management experience.

Farm to School Supporter

The Farm to School Supporter with Taking Root TN is responsible for the execution and operations of the Taking Root Tennessee, Raised Bed Garden Program. This position also requires travel to participant sites and assisting in construction and installation of raised garden beds.

Works with participants and community partners to identify areas of need, solicit suggestions, and capture success stories and testimonials.

Operation Backyard Internship – Summer 2019

Knoxville Leadership Foundation – Neighborhood Housing, Inc.

This is a short-term position for an intern who has organizational, planning and strong people skills, responsible for assessing local homeowners’ minor home repair needs, working with volunteer groups, assisting with construction and training, and maintaining administrative paperwork for the Housing Team.

Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct initial intake and assessment of minor home repair requests and obtain project approval or denial in coordinator with other Housing Team members. Track applications and maintain records through the development of administrative systems. Build relationships with social service providers and serve as a point of contact for those needing minor home repairs. Assist in project preparations by delivering materials, equipment, and tools to selected jobsites, completing preliminary repairs, and providing jobsite oversight. Assist in project close out by clearing jobsites of materials, tools, and equipment, returning materials, and cleaning and storing tools and equipment. Conduct follow up interviews with minor home repair program recipients to document services provided. Assist in oversight and instruction of construction training program participants.

Additional Opportunities: Interns will have the opportunity to learn entry-level knowledge of the construction industry and jobsite management and oversight while mentoring at risk populations of the Knoxville MSA.
