Using Humanities Energy to Turn Our World: Sustainability and Global Citizenship
“Energy Turns the World” was the theme of the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. While technology, industry, and manufacturing are usually associated with “energy,” none of them can be successful or “world turning” without the Humanities. As the world continues down a path of innovation and advancement, it is imperative that we remember the significance of the Humanities to make the world a better place.
This year’s conference will explore all aspects of the Humanities in the context of driving our world forward, while preserving it for future generations through sustainability and global citizenship. The humanities can help develop peace, compassion, understanding, and transformation by allowing us to get to know each other globally, and building connections to help maintain and sustain the world. The energy of the Humanities must not be overlooked in the age of science and technology. Emphasizing the critical thinking of the Humanities will ensure that when the world turns, it will turn for the better.
