This year we are highlighting the film “Denial” as a complement to our International Book Club selections, “Maus I” and “Maus II,” by Art Spiegelman. “Denial” is a film that recounts Deborah E. Lipstadt’s (Rachel Weisz) legal battle for historical truth against David Irving (Timothy Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the English legal system, in cases of libel, the burden of proof is on the defendant, therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team, led by Richard Rampton (Tom Wilkinson), to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust occurred.

“Maus II” – Book Club discussion – Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Microsoft Teams at noon or Thursday, Nov. 17, in Microsoft Teams at 12:30 p.m. This week’s discussion will focus mainly on “Maus II,” but “Maus I” also will be part of the conversation. Contact Theresa Castillo at tcastillo@pstcc.edu if you need a book from the Library.
