Pellissippi State Updates

1/11/2022 – 2 p.m. ET

We have good news for financial aid-eligible students. Your financial aid has been posted to your account. You will be able to see your award amount and complete the confirmation process in myPellissippi.

If you do not see the financial aid you are expecting, please fill out the appropriate forms in myPellissippi so that staff can follow up with you.

If you have excess aid over the cost of your tuition and fees, you will be able to charge your books at the Bookstore beginning the morning after the day you confirm attendance. Eligible students may charge to their financial aid accounts online through Jan. 25 and in the physical bookstores through Jan. 28.

1/4/2022 – 9:15 a.m. ET

Happy New Year! Classes start Tuesday, Jan. 18. Students, here are the actions you need to take now to make sure you’re ready to start spring semester #PellissippiStrong:

    1. Be sure you can log into your College account. If you haven’t set up your new account security, you must do so in order to access your Pellissippi State email and myPellissippi. The hotline is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.

    2. To register for your spring 2022 classes, connect with an advisor by visiting our Virtual Student Services on Zoom.

    3. Pay your fees by Jan. 20, 2022. Those students who rely on financial aid to pay their tuition and fees will not be able to complete this step right now.  Our Financial Aid office is working hard to get all scholarships and federal aid posted to students’ accounts. Please check our website, www.pstcc.edu, starting Thursday, Jan. 13, for more information on financial aid, including the dates for the upcoming Bookstore charge period.

The Start Strong Center is open on the Hardin Valley Campus for students wishing to drop off documents needed for admission or financial aid. Students also may drop off documents at any campus’ main office.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Pellissippi State Community College Ransomware Attack

On December 6, 2021, we became aware of a cyber event occurring at all five campuses. To contain the event, we shut off internet access and network connections between campuses and buildings. Internal investigation revealed that Pellissippi State was a victim of a sophisticated ransomware attack throughout our network, impacting multiple servers and desktop workstations.

Pellissippi State is actively working with appropriate law enforcement and cyber forensics experts to determine the scope and root cause of the event. Because this is an active investigation, certain aspects cannot be shared publicly. If you have questions about specific access related to your job, please contact your supervisor.

The ransomware attack was focused on disrupting Pellissippi State and its resources.  Personal devices are not on the Pellissippi State network and were not a target of this attack. There is no evidence that any personal devices were compromised. There is not a risk to your devices in using the systems that are currently available.

Currently, you can log into Brightspace and Office 365. As additional systems are restored, we will update this site.

Email was not lost and it will continue to be received. Access to Office 365 has been restored and instructions for logging in are on the update page.

We have an active investigation to understand the impact more fully and will update the college community as we are able. This will take time.

While the investigation is ongoing, if you are concerned about illegal use of your personal information, there are steps you can take to protect yourself. Learn more at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/topics/privacy-identity-online-security

Appropriate law enforcement agencies and Pellissippi State have launched full-scale investigations into this matter. Our model is a layered protection approach including firewalls and network segmentation to reduce risk. We are consistently reviewing systems protection and procedures.

NTS has turned on PC’s in all offices in order to expand the work of the investigating group.  Even if the PC appears to be unaffected, it cannot get internet connectivity.  Please do NOT turn off your PC at this time. The investigation team asks that you do not use any college computer on campus (Macintosh or PC) at this time to allow our investigation to occur as quickly as possible.

If you have technical questions about account access or changing your password, please contact the HelpDesk at 865-694-6537.

If you have information you would like to share that could be relevant to the investigation of this attack, please contact Audrey Williams, vice president of Information Services, at cio@pstcc.edu.

If you have academic questions, please contact your dean or program coordinator.

At this time, due to the network being down, you will not be able to confirm your schedule.  Please check this web page regularly for updates.  After our system is back up you will be able to confirm your schedule.  The current deadline to confirm is January 20, 2022.

After our systems come back up, you will receive an email to the email address that you provided on your application. Then we will work with you to get your class schedule set for the spring term.

Course registration is currently not available. After it is up and available for students, you will be notified through this website.

At this time we cannot print transcripts. We will update this page when students can request a transcript.

Students can access Brightspace until 11:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. Those whose instructors use the Brightspace gradebook will be able to see their grades. We are working to restore other access to grades. We will update you through this web page.

12/15/2021 – 12:25 p.m. ET

Although our Pellissippi State website is still down, students can access course and program information, as well as the 2022 academic calendar, in our official College Catalog, which is still available at http://catalog.pstcc.edu.

We will update you on how to meet with your advisor, register for spring 2022 classes, confirm your schedule and pay your fees as soon as we can.

Pellissippi State is still hiring for several positions. To see what opportunities are available and to apply, visit https://tbr.csod.com/ux/ats/careersite/10/home?c=tbr.

12/14/2021 – 4:45 p.m. ET

Pellissippi State continues to work to get the College network systems restored.  The College is actively working with appropriate law enforcement and cyberforensics experts. Because this is an active investigation, certain aspects will not and cannot be shared publicly. We will continue to update you as we can.

Students can access Brightspace until 11:59 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. Those whose instructors use the Brightspace gradebook will be able to see their grades. We are working to restore other access to grades.

12/07/2021 – 4:20 p.m. ET

Pellissippi State Community College has determined that the network systems outage appears to be the result of a ransomware attack. At this time, the breadth of the incident is under investigation. The College has currently contained the matter and is working to get its computer systems operational as soon as possible.

Pellissippi State is executing its Cyber Incident Response Plan, which includes contracting with computer forensics experts and working with law enforcement. Updates will continue to be posted on this page.

12/07/2021 – 9:35 a.m. ET

We are still working on the network systems outage. Faculty and students need to use the email inside Brightspace to communicate. If you cannot get into Brightspace with the alternate link, call HelpDesk at 865-694-6537 to help you access Brightspace.

Not all users have access to email or Teams, and if you do, you may lose access. It’s safe to use email or Teams for communication if you are already logged in, but don’t share or move files.

Virtual Student Services will be open today to help answer your questions. See the Zoom link above. Commencement is still set for 7 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Boling Arena.

12/06/2021 – 5:15 p.m. ET

If you have issues accessing Brightspace through the alternate link, please contact the HelpDesk via phone at 865-694-6537, not by email. HelpDesk is open until 7 p.m. ET.

12/06/2021 – 4:00 p.m. ET
